Indie Movies

So I've seen a few indie flicks in the last year that have really stuck with me. I'm going to talk about two of them here.

First is Camille starring James Franco and Sienna Miller. Dashing Mr. Franco plays a malcontent and a convict. However he is spared from keeping his butt pressed up against a wall (because face it, he's to pretty to be in jail)  by the lifelong love of fair Camille. Her father just happens to be the town Sherrif and agrees to forgo Franco's incarceration if he agrees to marry Camille. She's beautiful, optmistic and wont stop talking. He loathes her. So in his attempt to escape during their honeymoon, they suffer a terrible tragedy, and Franco is faced with putting the pieces back together.

I would categorize it as a fantasy/dramedy. And definitely worth a watch.

Next is Good Dick starring Jason Ritter and Marianna Palka. An oily, female hermit who is addicted to soft core porn draws the attention a of young, homeless video clerk who will stop at nothing to save her from herself.

This film is AWKWARD, in that delicious, romantic kind of way. A must see if you enjoy the indie scene.

He's gettin ink done...

So in about a year I'll be getting my first tattoo. I've been thinking about what I want for years and I have a list of several pieces I plan on. I'll christen my skin with a tattoo representing my two boys, leaving space for a possible third addition. I'm planning on getting my work done in the stye of  Arthur Rackham, who's beautiful illustrations graced some of my favorite fairy tales as a child. Here's some of his work.

I'll be getting a bull and a rabbit to represent my boys. They'll be playing together in a field. Here's a tattoo I came across in all my Googling, I'm really taken by it :)

If loving Nick Cage is wrong...

I'm a fat girl in spandex jogging shorts. I said it all right. From Valley Girl to The Sorcerer's Apprentice my affection for his sweet dopey charm has never faded. I know he's gawky and awkward and possibly a financial criminal, but my heart holds him dear. The legitimate awesomeness that is his "I-don't-know-that-I-should-give-a-f*ck," persona was only confirmed for me when I read his telling of a naked, fudgesicle wielding, mentally ill trespasser in The Onion yesterday. Oh, Nicky boy, you're honest bewilderment with every human being on earth is refreshing. And to those Negative Nelly's who's biggest thrill is to mock you, I say tsk tsk! Keep entertaining me with your off-kilter brand of life and project choices. Keep 'em guessing!

Gruuuunge...

It's back, that's right, take a big whiff! I'm having a torrid love affair with an old flame and I'll shout it from the roof tops. As a child you couldn't get me out my Payless work boots (50 bucks for Doc Martens? Yeah right!) and I'd spend hours vegging out to Pop Up Video on VH1. I've never let go of my love for the fashion or music, lamenting the fact that I'd never see Kurt Cobain or Brad Nowell, as the closer I crept toward adulthood, or hell, adolescence for that matter, they kept dying. Yes, it's been said that I'm an old soul, but right now, I'm indulging in the resurgence of a well loved part of my youth, plaid shirts, here I come!

Never gotten over plaid...

And just a tip,as well as scouring local thrift store and yard sales, hit up Craigslist.com for people selling used clothes. Just type "Vintage" into the search and you'll find all sorts of cool stuff.

Get your read on...

Currently reading The Help. It's good. The author puts forth a crisp, well spun yarn. I'm really interested in the characters and get caught up in their peril, anxiety and hope. If you're in the market for something new I highly recommend it. And if, perhaps, it's not the material you favor, I encourage you to branch out with this title. I sincerely feel you will not be disappointed. Amazon

Also, I've become addicted to Heroes. Sure, I'm like, five years late to the party, but now I can watch the entire show on Netflix, no waiting, no commercials. Down side? My hubs got into it too, so I have to wait till he gets home from work to watch it ;p More fun when you can share it with someone.

New Blizzog

Ok this blog is just for random things that pop into my head that for some reason I feel the desire to share. Maybe it's a thought, a dream, a book or another blog I've been introduced to. We'll have to wait and see. Come on this journey with me.
